Thoughts on a Bennington Rotary Signature Event
April 4, 2016
We just returned from a visit to family and friends in Seneca Falls, NY and it is now time to write my feature for the April newsletter. I have been searching for a topic that could be timely for the club. During our visit I attended the Seneca Falls Rotary Club meeting as a makeup for the meeting I missed here. One of the focal points of the meeting was a rundown with many, many thankyous on their spring fund raising event.
On a recent March Saturday afternoon from 4 to 7 pm, they hosted a "Chocolate Extravaganza with a Splash of Wine and a Dash of Art". Chocolate tastings by local
vendors, wine tastings from local wineries, chocolate cuisine competition, door prizes, a silent
auction and local artists exhibiting their work were the highlights. This was the fourth year and it has grown in attendance each year. This has become a signature spring event for this Rotary Club to go along with their other signature events in August (an ice cream booth at the Northeast Farm Days) followed in mid-September with their Wine & Jazz event.
Perhaps a modification of this type of event, either in the fall or the May/June timeframe could work for us. Something like this might entice the local shops, vendors, food places and wine/beer participants to engage more directly in a community event. Making a venue like this available to local artists and students to show and/or sell their works could be a drawing card.
Could something like this be adapted to the Bennington community?
