The Book Express

March 3, 2010

The Children’s Library within the Bennington Free Library offers many programs for children and young adults. Among these programs is the Book Express.

These are boxes with fifteen books, a videotape or DVD and some manipulative or toy. These boxes are delivered to Family Child Care Centers, early education programs and primary school grades in the public schools. Volunteers take the boxes around to the various places.

When planning programs for the community Season of Mystery that would include a mystery night, May as a Month of Mystery and Mayhem, as well as featuring a different children’s mystery wrier each month, the librarians thought it would be wonderful to have a box of books to share with children, kindergarten through fourth grade. Such boxes cost $250.

When the idea was brought to the Bennington Rotary Board, the members thought it was a great idea, but they did not have the funds. They suggested asking Rotarians at lunch to contribute.

The following Friday, a deer stalker was passed and $250 raised Congratulations Bennington Rotarians.
