Treasurer of Interact - Keara Sternberg

March 1, 2014

Keara Sternberg
For the past two years, I have been an active member of Mount Anthony Union High School's (MAUHS) Interact Community Service Club. As Treasurer, I have continuously kept busy taking part in acts of community service ranging from Beautify Bennington (A Global Youth Service Day) to the Bennington Empty Bowl Dinner. Interact has revealed to me the significant impact of simple gestures which is truly rewarding. Because of the dedication and involvement of its members, MAUHS' Interact Club continues to be influential and held in high esteem.

Along with Interact, I've always been drawn to various activities provided at MAUHS. As the vice president of the National Honors Society, Editor of the MAU Messenger Paper, Three-year Captain of the MAU Varsity Dance Team, and first-chair clarinet player of the MAUHS symphonic and marching band, being busy has been a major part of my life. If there is one important lesson I have learned in high school, it is that being close friends with many people, who all identify themselves differently and surround themselves with different social groups, is the most special kind of relationship you can have with your peers, by taking advantage of the opportunities your school provides to meet new and unique people.

Volunteering has always been important to me so I have continued to be an active Girl Scout and member of my local and larger community. Some of my favorite service projects have included volunteering in Hoosick Falls Central School's pit orchestra for their past four musical productions, being a VISTA Youth Ambassador in the Alliance for Community Transformations program, and Empowerment and Improving Women's Image in Society.

As the current senior class president, I want youth to be empowered and diplomatically-opinionated every day. Youth involvement is what supports and drives America's social movements, future work force, and community as a whole. Interact Club welcomes anyone who is interested and continues to successfully define the character of many individuals, as it has for me. As a fundamental stepping stone, Interact Club effectively shapes generous and active youth, as well as well-rounded global citizens.
